BBL:03 Round 2 Picks

So my pick of an unlikely Thunder upset in Round 1 was wrong, and the Hurricanes/Striker game was a wash out, but I did successfully pick the Stars and Heat to get up. Round 2 commences on Boxing Day night over in Perth with the clash of two round 1 losers the Scorchers and Renegades.

  • Scorchers v Renegades (WACA) – Both lost in Round 1. The Scorchers are my pick, they were the more convincing in defeat, and they’ve got home ground advantage.
  • Thunder v Strikers (ANZ) – I can’t find confirmation anywhere about the severity of Khawaja’s injury, so I’m assuming he’s out. Warner is also out, and without them they would have made about 30 against the Sixers. I’m tipping Hales and the Strikers to cash in on the short straight boundaries at ANZ, and continue the woes for the Thunder. The corresponding game 2 years ago was the last time the Thunder tasted victory.
  • Heat v Hurricanes (Gabba) – Going with the Heat again, they got home thanks to some big hitting from Lynn, but their strike bowlers in Cutting and McDermott also looked good. Hurricanes might be slightly affect having not yet had a game, due to the weekend’s washout.
  • Sixers v Stars (SCG) – Both victorious in round 1. If the Stars start like they did in the first game they’ll be hard to stop. I’m going with the Stars, but for whichever team bats first, if they can get 170+, history says they’ll be almost guaranteed to win.
