BBL:03 Round 3 Picks

Three out of four ain’t bad, especially when the one I got wrong was the highest run chase ever in the BBL. No gap between rounds 2 and 3, as the Heat play their 2nd game in 3 days at Etihad Stadium tonight.

  • Renegades v Heat (Etihad) – The men in red have been pretty poor in their first two games, a heavy loss to the Stars and unable to chase down 117 against the Scorchers. That said, it’s their first home game which should lift them, and the Heat might still be hurting after their high-scoring thriller on Saturday night. I’m tipping the Renegades.
  • Strikers v Scorchers (Adelaide) – This one should be close. The Scorchers have had two tight games, and the Strikers only just got home against the Thunder. The short square boundaries at the Adelaide oval could be in for a hammering from both sides, but I’m going with the Strikers just because they’re at home.
  • Hurricanes v Renegades (Bellerive) – The Renegades feature twice in Round 3, and this time in the first of two New Year’s Day clashes. Hobart should still be on a high after their mammoth chase in Brisbane, and the Renegades will be contending just 1.5 days break between games (this one is an afternoon match-up). I’m tipping the Hurricanes.
  • Thunder v Stars (ANZ) – Can’t go past the Stars, they’ve already posted 200 in both their opening games and it will take a lot for the win less Thunder to get over their collapse against the Strikers. The Thunder are going to need more than just Mike Hussey magic to get past the Stars lineup – the only two Stars players (from last night’s game) who haven’t represented Australia are Luke Wright and Lasith Malinga… because neither of them are Australian.
